Sponsor an acre of land for food relief and agricultural development projects overseas.
Today, the UN World Food Programme's aggregates 957 million people across 93 countries who do not have enough to eat. Undernourishment has accelerated in the last two years with the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, inflation, and the war in Ukraine all contributing to food insecurity.
For more than 30 years, Canadian farmers have been working to end global hunger through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB). You, too, can become a virtual ‘Farmer’ by sponsoring an acre of land through the Grow Hope project. CFGB also helps farmers around the world learn to produce more reliable crops by promoting sustainable farming practices.
Your support of let’s say $100 helps to buy seeds and inputs for the growing season. A Canadian farmer will use your gift to grow a crop on an acre of land alongside their own. At harvest time, the farmer sells the crop produced, at an estimated profit of 35%.
The farmer donates the full amount to the CBM account at the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. That means your gift can then matched up to 4 times when used to deliver emergency food aid in places like Lebanon, South Sudan, and Latin America.
